Pete sets off for Africa to make his fortune, asking Philip to take care of Kate until he returns. Philip and Kate fall in love and when they hear that Pete was killed they plan a life together. Pete returns to the island a wealthy man. Kate's father agrees to let Kate marry him, and neither she nor Philip has it in them to break Pete's heart.
